The smart home market is becoming increasingly confusing: many apps, many systems, different manufacturers. The smart home standard "Matter" is designed to simplify exactly that. The SELVE Home Server 3 connects the world of SELVE radio drives with the world of Matter. This means your existing or newly installed SELVE solutions remain in place and can also be used in Matter-based smart home environments.
What are the benefits of Matter in combination with the SELVE Home Server 3?
The SELVE Home Server 3 is the central control unit for roller shutters, venetian blinds, external venetian blinds, zip screens, awnings and other SELVE devices. With the implemented Matter integration, the SELVE Home Server 3 can be used even more universally.
Voice control
Control your SELVE devices via Apple Home / Siri, Google Home / Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings / Bixby - without additional programming or extra apps.
Automations with third-party devices
SELVE roller shutters can be combined in Matter scenes with motion detectors, lighting or sockets from other brands and controlled together.
Simple expansion
Transmitters, lights, sensors and heating thermostats with Matter support can be added at any time and linked directly to the devices integrated in the SELVE Home Server 3.

What exactly is Matter?
Matter is a cross-manufacturer, open smart home standard introduced in 2022 by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). It was jointly developed by tech giants such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and many other companies. The goal is to enable uniform, simple and secure communication between smart home devices from different manufacturers. Key characteristics of Matter:

What are a Matter Controller, Matter Bridge and Matter Device?
Matter-Controller
A Matter controller (e.g. Apple HomePod, Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo, Samsung SmartThings Hub / Station) controls and automates Matter products from various manufacturers. All enrolled Matter products are managed in a central app and can be controlled from there, either automatically or manually. Control of all devices via voice commands is also possible through this.
Matter-Bridge
A Matter bridge is controlled by a controller and connects devices of another radio system to the Matter smart home. This means that existing, non-Matter products can also be integrated into the Matter network via a Matter bridge and do not need to be replaced. The SELVE Home Server 3 is a Matter bridge, so SELVE radio drives and other devices from the commeo radio system as well as products from Homematic IP can be controlled within a Matter system.
Matter-Device
A Matter device is an end device that understands the Matter protocol and executes radio commands directly (e.g. a Matter plug adapter or Matter heating thermostat). Matter devices from various manufacturers can be easily linked with the SELVE Home Server 3.

How to connect Matter with SELVE
Four steps to a cross-manufacturer smart home.
Connect the server to your home network and enrol your SELVE radio drives.
Retrieve the Matter code in the SELVE Home Server 3 and enter it in your preferred smart home app (e.g. Apple Home, Google Home).
All enrolled SELVE devices will automatically appear in your Matter app - ready to be controlled.
Operate roller shutters by voice, create scenes with other devices and add new Matter products at any time.

Controlling SELVE radio drives with Apple Home
Martin already uses Apple Home in his flat and controls lighting and heating thermostats with the Apple Home app. Now he is getting new windows and roller shutters with SELVE radio drives. He enrols the radio drives in the SELVE Home Server 3 and connects the SELVE Home Server 3 to Apple Home. All roller shutters immediately appear in the app.
In future, Martin can control his roller shutters in Apple Home without any extra effort - also via voice control and, most importantly, without an additional app.
Linking smoke detectors with SELVE radio drives
The Pflüger family has been using roller shutters with SELVE radio drives in their house for many years. Up to now, control has only been manual via hand-held and wall transmitters. The family now wants to automate some processes in the house and is planning to purchase smart home products. Central control will be via Amazon Alexa, and the SELVE Home Server 3 will be purchased to control the SELVE radio drives. With a single app (and voice control), Matter-capable devices from different manufacturers can then be linked together.
In future, the Krüger family will control the roller shutters easily via voice command, with their existing smoke detectors from other manufacturers and via the temperature control in Amazon Echo. Everything is centrally connected - without app chaos!
Unifying several smart home systems in a single app
Claudia currently uses smart home products from four different manufacturers, one of which is the SELVE Home Server 3. She controls the devices with four different apps. As she is renovating her penthouse flat and wants to simplify the complex control, she is installing new Matter-capable devices. Fortunately, the SELVE Home Server 3 can be integrated into the Matter system as standard!
Claudia now has just one app on her tablet to control all devices. Linking is also possible across platforms: when it gets dark in the evening, the light sensor automatically lowers the roller shutters.
