Ideal for retrofitting:
surface-mounted roller shutters
Surface-mounted roller shutters are installed outside on the facade or in a building’s window soffit. This prevents thermal bridges and does not impact the property’s insulation performance. This characteristic makes them especially suitable for passive houses as it protects the thermal skin.
The shutters are serviced through an inspection opening in the underside of the box, which facilitates access to the inner workings.
Ideal when replacing windows:
add-on roller shutters
An add-on roller shutter is installed together with the window. The box can be either mounted on the window frame at the factory or attached to it during the installation.
Add-on roller shutters are popular choices for energy-efficient renovations as they offer outstanding thermal and sound insulation.
However, the glazing area of the window is slightly reduced by the roller shutter box, which means somewhat less daylight indoors. The inspection opening is usually located on the room side at the bottom on the shutter.
Primarily for new buildings:
built-in roller shutters
Built-in roller shutters or those for new buildings are integrated into existing wall or lintel boxes and disappear into the facade.
They are primarily suitable for new buildings, as an existing cavity in the window lintel is required to retrofit them. Insulation is necessary to avoid thermal bridges and improve the sound insulation.
Compared to other types of roller shutters, built-in roller shutters offer the advantage that the inspection opening is located in the building interior, making important components such as the mechanism and strap easily accessible.

Awnings and zip screens
There are different kinds of awning – each system has its own special features. Patio awnings offer protection from the sun and light rain, while conservatory awnings have been specially developed for glass roofs to prevent overheating.
