Only those who embrace innovative technologies early can stay ahead of the curve. The intelligent SELVE Home system is now entering its next phase with smart new developments. Starting in April, the new SELVE Home Server 3 will be available – now fully compatible with the Matter SmartHome standard. This ensures cross-brand connectivity with products from leading SmartHome providers like Apple, Amazon, Google and others. Through Matter, all integrated commeo radio drives and devices can be operated seamlessly. In addition, the new box and its accompanying app offer further enhancements. “This allows us to meet customer demand for efficient, future-ready solutions,” says SELVE Product Manager Stefan Backenecker.

SmartHome for Everyday Living: Just as individual as users’ needs, the intelligent home control centre from SELVE is equally flexible. Whether it’s lowering roller shutters or awnings automatically to prevent rooms from overheating, or switching on lights, thermostats and other devices – SELVE Home handles it all and much more. Now, the next generation of this smart system is launching with even more innovative features. “It’s eagerly awaited by our field sales team due to increasing customer demand,” says Stefan Backenecker.

Even More Intuitive and Easier to Use

A lot has changed technically with the new SELVE Home Server 3, including even more intuitive operation and initial setup. Foremost among these is a new, improved tile-based interface for integrating all components and controlling devices via the app. “For example, commissioning the SELVE Home 3 is now much easier – simply scan the QR code on the back of the device and connect via Bluetooth, so there’s no need to switch into the WLAN access point,” explains Stefan Backenecker, Product Manager for Control Technology. “This makes the initial setup significantly faster and simpler.” The newly designed, clearly structured and free SELVE Home 3 app makes operation or status monitoring of the SmartHome system even easier for users. Another advantage: “Previously required password entries are no longer necessary. All connections, including the integration of additional users, are now easily managed using self-generated QR codes,” Backenecker adds, listing further innovations. A particularly forward-looking innovation in the SELVE Home 3 is its Matter compatibility. The compact black box can now also be controlled externally. This applies to all registered commeo and Homematic IP devices – and also supports earlier SELVE radio systems iveo and intronic. “Thanks to the Matter communication standard, voice control functions such as Alexa or Siri can now be integrated simply by adding the server to a Matter network – no cloud connection is required,” explains the SELVE Product Manager. The same applies to all other Matter-compatible voice assistants.

Versatile possibilities with Matter

What is Matter – and what does it do? Whether Amazon, Apple, Google, Samsung, LG or many other manufacturers – they all support this open standard that enables cross-brand connectivity. In practice, this means: “For example, Apple Home can be used to control not only devices from other manufacturers, but also SELVE Home 3 components such as commeo radio drives and receivers,” explains Product Manager Stefan Backenecker. He has thoroughly tested such an Apple integration himself. His conclusion: “It works extremely well – end customers benefit from a broader and more seamless user experience thanks to the Matter standard.” Until now, SmartHome systems from different brands often operated separately – Matter unites them in one ecosystem: simple, reliable and future-proof, using a shared communication protocol that transmits commands, states and measurements across brand boundaries. The standard connects products from various manufacturers while ensuring encrypted data exchange and privacy protection through advanced security protocols. “The technology opens up numerous new applications and functionalities for connecting the modern home,” says the control systems expert. Within the increasingly important “Matter universe,” SELVE is one of the frontrunners in Germany’s roller shutter and sun protection industry. The Lüdenscheid-based company’s goal is clear: to develop forward-thinking solutions for tomorrow’s connected living – today. With certified Matter compatibility, the newly developed SELVE Home Server 3 ensures full interoperability between different devices and platforms supporting the standard. The list of companies adopting this technology, developed two years ago by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), continues to grow. “Matter can be implemented across multiple network protocols – in addition to Wi-Fi, both Ethernet and Thread are supported,” adds Stefan Backenecker.

One Device, Many Options

How smart should your home be? With the new SELVE solution, users have multiple options to choose from. Whether with or without Matter integration, whether controlled via the internet from anywhere in the world or exclusively within a private Wi-Fi network – users of SELVE Home 3 decide how they want their system to operate. Tailored to individual requirements, expectations and habits, the system can be configured and customised with ease. In the SELVE Home 3 app, users can easily define which blinds or awnings operate in which rooms, in groups, or in specific scenarios – and they can also control them manually at any time. Rules can additionally be created to open and close roller shutters and sun protection systems at fixed times, by astronomical (astro) times or automatically via sensors. According to Product Manager Stefan Backenecker, the broad compatibility of SELVE Home 3 represents a “huge advantage for customers.” The new Home Server can serve as the central control unit for all SELVE radio systems – both for current commeo products and their predecessors. Stand-alone systems are a thing of the past: years ago, SELVE deliberately opened its SmartHome system to integrate selected Homematic IP devices – from alarm sirens to heating thermostats – all of which can still be managed seamlessly. With Matter integration, the company from Lüdenscheid now takes another major step forward: “This is the future-proof solution for end customers who want to make even more of their connected home,” Backenecker emphasises. “Overall, our intelligent SELVE system meets a wide range of requirements – it does exactly what it should, is ideally suited to our field of application, and remains easy to use.”
