Brisbane, in the north-east of Australia. Here stands an imposing office tower whose glass façade reflects the skyline of the Eagle River. A total of 54 storeys and 196 metres high - reliable shading is essential in the many offices of this glass tower with up to eight hours of sunshine a day: Internal roller blinds, which are controlled both centrally and locally, provide adequate protection. These are set in motion with 2100 SELVE drives. And not least because the motors from Lüdenscheid are particularly quiet.

‘One one one’ is the name of the light-flooded office tower and also the tallest building in the centre of Brisbane, located at 111 Eagle Street. Many well-known companies are based here and the tower was occupied last year. Peter Skinner from ‘Shade Factor’ focussed on ensuring that the individual offices and floors are shaded exactly as desired. The managing director of the Australian company planned the solar shading for this and various other large properties ‘down under’. In doing so, he relied on close cooperation with renowned German manufacturers and suppliers.

And the Office Tower in Brisbane would also not work without high-performance products from German companies: Peter Skinner is not only a customer of sun shading technology and control systems from Warema, but also from drive specialist SELVE. The shading for the major project on the Eagle River is controlled by an intelligent Warema ‘LONworks System’, which enables the 4200 roller blinds to be operated both centrally with various control functions and directly locally - individually via push-buttons. Two mechanically connected roller blinds are each motorised by 2100 SELVE-SP drives with 30 revolutions per minute.

Low noise, practical, good

The SELVE motors were chosen because they are ‘particularly quiet’, reports Dirk Theile, Area Sales Manager at SELVE, who is responsible for international ‘key customers’. With the low-noise roller blind motor, SELVE was able to clearly assert itself - even against competitors. ‘Current measurements have shown that our classic electric drive, which has been successful for years, only has a low noise level of 37 dB(A),’ says Dirk Theile. This is because the noise level is a key selection criterion when moving the roller blinds in the many offices in the Office Tower. This is why the SELVE Area Sales Manager was also on site in Brisbane to discuss the motorisation of the roller blinds with the client of the Office Tower and Peter Skinner.

Further advantages of the SELVE drive used: ‘Another decisive factor in favour of our motor was the fact that it has already proven its long-term reliability and safety in a number of other projects and that its particularly quiet operation is guaranteed in the long term,’ reports Dirk Theile. Added to this are proven plus points such as simple installation, suitable roller blind shaft adapters, including for the Australian standard, and very high switch-off accuracy at a winder speed of 30 rpm.

Peter Skinner from ‘Shade Factor’ has been working with SELVE for four years now, and the contact was established at the leading international trade fair R+T. ‘In addition to motors with mechanical cut-off, we also supply radio drives and other products from our comprehensive radio programme, specially adapted to 915 MHz for the Australian market,’ reports the export specialist from SELVE.

Around the globe

It's not just in Brisbane, Australia, that sophisticated technology from full-service provider SELVE is in demand: ‘Made in Germany’ opens doors for the Lüdenscheid-based company in many other countries - or roller blinds, screens, shutters and awnings. From Switzerland, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey to Kuwait or Singapore, India and North Africa: Dirk Theile, who is regularly on a plane, looks after a wide variety of major projects and customers directly. As a member of the more than 20-strong SELVE sales team, he is helping to ensure that the export share is also growing steadily. Another major project he recently completed is in Dubai. So-called ‘blackout blinds’ were motorised with SELVE drives for a well-known hotel chain. These blinds ensure that the rooms are shaded in the dark at night: for example, many pilots are guests at this hotel, so they can get a good night's sleep after long flights.
